The Jan. 6th Insurrection

A violent Jan. 6th insurrection engulfed the U.S. Capitol just seventeen months ago. The January 6th committee is about to have public hearings on the subject next week. Many Republican leaders are already trying to rewrite the history of that day and what led up to it. This is an effort to deflect from why it happened. Ben Jealous wrote an op-ed on the Jan. 6th Insurrection a while back that I feel is the real reason many Republicans want to re-write history.

Replacement Theory Goes Mainstream

I need to give Nicholas Confessore and Karen Yourish credit for some of this information.

At the extremes of American life there is replacement theory. It is the notion that Western elites, sometimes manipulated by Jews, want to “replace” and disempower white Americans. The idea of replacement theory is now going mainstream.

Replacement theory, once on hidden message boards and white nationalist sites, has gone mainstream. In has become a potent force in conservative media and politics. The theory has been borrowed and remixed to attract audiences, retweets, and donations.

Mainly, they have become commonplace in the Republican Party. Spoken aloud at congressional hearings, echoed in Republican campaign advertisements, and used by a growing array of right-wing candidates and media personalities.

Whoever Steers the Ship – Makes the Rules: 1619

1619

Gervel Robinson note a piece, Whoever Steers the Ship, Makes the Rules. It was about the 1619 introduction of blacks into America. I wanted to share it.

In 1619, lovely gentlemen from America, a place they discovered that was already inhabited, went to Africa and took many of them back to America. Without any coercion or hesitation, the Africans left their homeland and shackled themselves in the bottom of a cruise ship called the White Lion.

The trip was glorious, and the Africans were delighted. For fun, many of them practiced diving off the side of the ship into the ocean. Others got sick, and many died, but people die on cruise ships every year, so it was not a big deal.

Oil Companies Misleading Advertising

Have you seen oil company misleading advertising lately? If you did, what would you find – greenwashing. By greenwashing they look environmentally conscious for marketing purposes. n reality they are not making any notable sustainability efforts.

Has Evangelical Christianity Become Sociopathic?

Is modern evangelical christianity becoming sociopathic?

I ran across an article on Huffington Post about how some Christians are using the Bible to discriminate against other contrary to religious teachings. It was written by Tim Rymel. I want to give him and The Huffington Post credit where credit is due.  There are some interesting links in his article. They provide the basis for his statements so people cannot call them “alternative facts.”

Since Evangelical Christianity began infiltrating politics, officially in the late 1970s, there has been a disturbing trend to limit or remove rights from those who don’t meet the conservative idea of an American. Many of these initiatives come in the form of “religious freedom” laws, which empower discrimination, while other legislation targets immigrants who believe differently. The result has been a sharp division in American culture, and the redefinition of Christian theology.

Education is Broken

Broken educational system

Angela Watson is a National Board-Certified Teacher with 11 years’ experience in the classroom, plus over a decade of experience as an instructional coach. She wrote this article about the broken educational system.Being an ex-educator, I felt this about sums up education and truth today. —

For many years, most Americans have been asleep. We’ve not been paying attention to the systemic injustices that were building and led us to the point we’re at. The mistrust and dissatisfaction that we’re seeing from many groups of people for many different (and often opposing) reasons–this unrest didn’t come out of nowhere.

Spotting Fake News

As many as three in four Americans overestimate their ability to spot false headlines or spotting fake news. The worse they are , the more likely they are to share that fake news, researchers reported.

Republicans were more likely to fall for fake news than Democrats according to a study. The study had 8200 respondents.

Don’t Be a Sheeple

This term, sheeple, I think is funny, but it is not.  A combination of the words “sheep” and “people” meaning that the person or persons are acting as a group or to only behave based on what is trending. There are too many people today that just follow others because they do not know better.  They are like sheep that follow the leader even if the leader leads them down the wrong path.
